Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Education

30-Sep-2025 1:08 PM | Michael Lieberman

The Department of Medical Education at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is seeking applicants for a full-time (12-month), non-tenure track, basic sciences medical educator faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. This faculty member will serve two programs within the College of Medicine: the Medical Sciences Baccalaureate Program (BS) and the Medical School (MD).

As a member of the Medical Sciences Baccalaureate Program Community of Scholars, the candidate's role in the Medical Sciences Baccalaureate Program will include responsibilities both inside and outside of the classroom to prepare students wholistically for career paths in the biomedical sciences and healthcare field, including medical school. Teaching roles will span courses from the 1st to 4th year of the curriculum, helping students to develop both professional competencies and STEM subject matter expertise. Upper-level courses targeted to 3rd and 4th year undergraduate students will include teaching biochemistry; however, other subjects such as medical microbiology, medical genetics, or cell biology may be expected dependent upon the expertise of the applicant. All faculty members in the program also serve as a mentor for groups of students. The candidate will support the broader curriculum through participation in various committees, including the curriculum committee. The position will also include opportunities for developing and publishing innovative pedagogical materials and scholarship.

The candidate's role in the Medical School (MD program) will include serving as the course director of Scientific Foundations of Medicine (SFOM). SFOM is the first basic science course of the pre-clerkship medical curriculum (Phase 1), which prepares students with the necessary basic science knowledge to succeed in subsequent organ system courses. As a course director, the candidate will lead the organization of SFOM course content, oversee all course activities, and create assessment materials. The candidate will work closely with a clinical co-director (MD) to conduct this work. The candidate is also expected to present lectures within SFOM and other Phase 1 courses, according to their subject matter expertise. Additionally, this candidate will collaborate with other organ system course directors (members of the department of medical education) and Phase 1 clinical course directors in ongoing curriculum development and integration of basic science and clinical content.
